The transparency and accountability obligations incumbent on ASSOCIAĆĆO BIOPOLIS (BIOPOLIS) - as well as the R&D institutions it manages: R&D unit CIBIO - CENTRE FOR RESEARCHĀ IN BIODIVERSITY AND GENETIC RESOURCES and associated laboratory INBIO, REDE DE INVESTIGAĆĆO EM BIODIVERSIDADE E RECURSOS GENĆTICOSĀ - as a private institution of public utility, a leader in research and development (R&D) in the fields of biodiversity, ecosystems, ecology, genomics, computational biology, bioinformatics and environmental monitoring, and in advanced training in its fields of intervention, requires that the behaviour of its Collaborators be guided by rules of an ethical and deontological nature that reflect high standards of moral and professional conduct.Ā
The purpose of this Code of Ethics and Conduct for BIOPOLIS Collaborators is to affirm the values and establish the rules and general principles of ethics and professional conduct for BIOPOLIS Collaborators and R&D institutions managed by the Association, in their relations with each other and with third parties, as well as constituting a reference as to the standard of conduct required of BIOPOLIS in its internal and external relations, and was originally approved at the meeting of the Executive Committee of Associação BIOPOLIS on the 26th of june 2024.
Following a logic of permanent institutional improvement aimed at safeguarding BIOPOLIS's image as a pillar of excellence, responsibility, independence and rigour, the Executive Committee decided to introduce legal requirements in this Code with regard to Combating Corruption, Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing, Personal Data Protection and Harassment at Work.
In the scientific context, BIOPOLIS Collaborators must also observe the set of principles, rules of good practice and values regarding research integrity and professional self- regulation in all scientific and academic disciplines of the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity.
